Questions and Answers
individualisedlivingoptions.com.au is a free, independent service that connects people on the NDIS with registered ILO providers. Here are the questions people ask most, about ILO itself and about how we work. Our guides go into each topic in more depth.
About ILO
What is ILO?
Individualised living options: NDIS funding for a package of support at home designed around one person, often living with a host or sharing their home with a housemate. It pays for support, not the home.
Who decides if someone gets ILO?
The NDIA, based on evidence about the person's support needs and, for stage 2, the service proposal developed during exploration and design.
What are the two stages of ILO?
Stage 1 is exploration and design, 30 to 100 hours to work out how the person wants to live. Stage 2 is the ILO supports: primary supports, supplementary supports, and monitoring and adjustment.
What's the difference between ILO and SIL?
SIL funds support workers 24 hours a day. ILO is a flexible package around one person, for people who need at least 6 hours of support at home a day but not 24-hour rostered or frequent overnight support.
Using This Service
What does this service do?
We connect NDIS participants, families and support coordinators with registered ILO providers who may be able to help. You answer a few questions, we pass your details to one suitable provider, and they contact you.
Does it cost anything?
No. It's free for you. Providers pay us for introductions, which is how we keep it free. It doesn't come out of your NDIS plan.
Are you part of the NDIS?
No. We're an independent service. We're not part of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) or the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and we don't deliver ILO ourselves.
How soon will someone contact me?
It depends on the provider. We only pass your details to providers who are taking on new participants in your area, and we follow up to check you were contacted. If you haven't heard back, email us and we'll chase it.
Do you cover my area?
We take enquiries from every state and territory. Put the postcode where the person would like to live in the form.
Can I use this if ILO isn't in the plan yet?
Yes, tell us where things are at. A provider can talk you through ILO, and our guide explains how to ask for ILO funding.
Your Details
Who sees my details?
Only the registered ILO provider we match you with. If they can't help, we pass your details to another registered provider, one at a time, up to 3 in total. Nobody else gets them for their own marketing.
Can I change my mind?
Yes. Email hello@individualisedlivingoptions.com.au and we'll stop passing your details on and let any provider we've introduced you to know.
Why do you ask about support needs?
So the provider can tell straight away whether they could help, and you don't have to explain everything twice. We ask for your consent first because this is sensitive information.
For Support Coordinators and Providers
Can I refer a participant?
Yes. Use the referral form. Please check the participant, or their nominee, agrees to the referral first. We'll let you know who's picking it up.
I'm an ILO provider. Can I join?
If you're registered with the NDIS Commission and deliver ILO exploration and design, ILO supports or both, register your interest on the providers page and we'll be in touch.
